Five Brazilian Jiu-jitsu exponents from Brunei Darussalam impressed in the Jakarta Brazilian Jiu-jitsu 2019 Open after they bagged medals at the Candra Wijaya International Badminton Hall, BSD City in Indonesia recently.
The medal haul was led by Rasimoon Adinin of Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Brunei who won gold after winning his final match against Tjong Minton Gozali from Warrior MMA Indonesia via a clock choke submission.
The exponent expressed appreciation to his coach and team after playing a part in helping realise his success in the international stage.
“I would like to thank my team and coach from Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts for preparing me for this competition in the past few months,” said Rasimoon who triumphed in his semi-final match by points (4-0) against Henrix Setyawan from De Been Jiujitsu Indonesia.
He added, “I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Brunei’s BJJ community in supporting all of us and sending congratulatory messages for our win. And of course, a special mention to my family for the continuous support.”
Brunei won four bronze in the competition through Jacob Kong of Absolute MMA, Muhammad Iskandar of Khalifa MMA Brunei, Haji Abdul Azim bin Haji Isahak of The Refinery Oil Town Jiujitsu Brunei and Nadine Kong of Khalifa MMA Brunei.
Jacob emerged victorious against two opponents to enter the semi-finals where his fight ended in defeat to Adriano Frizky from Gracie Barra Indonesia, earning him bronze for his efforts.
Muhammad Iskandar, who fought in the rooster weight category, defeated Herman Herman from De Been Jiujitsu Indonesia by points (15-0).
However, he lost by a rear naked choke submission in a hard fought semi-final against Dwi Priyanto from Jogja Jiujitsu Academy Indonesia.
Haji Abdul Azim came out on top in his quarter-final match against Faris Adlin from Werewolf Martial Art Indonesia but his journey ended after a defeat to Rio Adriano from Gracie Barra Indonesia in the semi-final via a rear naked choke submission.
Nadine, the sole female competitor representing Brunei in the event, put in a good fight in the semi-final but unfortunately lost by a rear naked choke submission against Sophia Thompson from Fortitude Martial Arts Singapore.
